Angela Headley
Angela's inspiration for her art work has come from experiencing people, their cultures and traditions and expressing that in her paintings. Quoting Aristotle, "The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things but their inner significance." There lies her challenge.
"I have been studying art and painting for 30 years, and I'm still evolving and developing. This is a limitless learning curve with many wonderful experiences included. To that end I have been fortunate to study with many talented artists and learn from them all."
Currently, Angela's paintings can be found at Cedar Street Gallery, Honolulu, Oahu and Island Art Gallery, Hanapepe, Kauai. Island Art Gallery, which she owns, features Angela's paintings and three dimensional works by local artists.
Angela has been working in the field of art for 30 years as an artist, teacher, designer, consultant, and gallery owner. Painting and exhibiting in the continental U.S., and the Hawaiian Islands, she has also studied and painted in France, Italy, Mexico, Fiji, and Tahiti. She is currently focusing on the Hawaiian Islands. However, she does take breaks to paint the different color palette landscapes of other countries.
As a founding member and V.P. of the Capitola, CA, Arts Commission, Angela helped initiate art and music programs including: "Art in Public Places," "Twilight Concert Series," "Capitola Art and Wine Festival," "Earth Day Children's Art," "Art Commission Lecture Series," "Summer Jazz Camp Scholarship," "Senior's Art Project," and "Friends of the Arts." Angela also worked as a Media Specialist helping to develop learning assistance programs through art.
For the last 7 years Angela has been a part of the Hanapepe, Kauai, community taking part in town beautification projects and helping establish such events as the annual "Orchid and Art Festival."
Her paintings have been in many solo exhibits, juried group exhibits, and are in private collections worldwide. Her paintings have been published in Spirit of Hula, by Leilani Petranek; "Hawaii Magazine," March, 2008; and "Essential Kauai," March, 2008.
